Awoniyi's Mainz suffers heavy defeat in Bundesliga clash
By Emmnauel Oladele - Nigeria's Taiwo Awoniyi was a 61st minute substitute for Mainz 05 as they suffered a heavy 5-0 defeat in the hand of visiting RB Leipzig in the German Bundesliga.
Timo Werner's hat-trick and a goal each from Yussuf Poulsen and Marcel Sabitzer were enough to complete a 5-0 demolition of Taiwo Awoniyi's Mainz on Sunday.
The introduction of Awoniyi in the 61st could not prevent Mainz's heavy defeat.
After the defeat, Mainz are now 15th on the log and could now become a relegation threatened team if Beierlorzer Achim's led side failed to improve their game.
RB Leipzig maintained third position on the log and are seven points behind Bayern Munich who currently top the log. This means that RB Leipzig are also in contention for the league title but will need to catch up with Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund who are currently first and second respectively on the log.
