The Ex-Super Eagles Star that many have Forgotten

By Oladele Emmanuel - After time spent with the senior national team and retirement from Football, many Ex-International are always still part of football stories in Nigeria in one way or the other, but not so in the case of Abbey George, everyone seems to have forgotten about him.

Abbey Peterson George made 18 appearances for the Nigeria Super Eagles and was fantastic as a defender (wing-back) in his days. He was in Tunisia 2004 Africa Cup of Nations where Nigeria finished third. Many will remember him, that light-skinned defender.
The 41-year-old started his career as a youth player with Sharks of Port-Harcourt between 1994-1999, before he commenced his senior career in England with Macclesfield Town where he played between 1999-2004 and made 100 appearances.
In 2004, he moved to Port Vale where he made 62 appearances before joining Crewe Alexandra in 2007 and had 30 appearances.

In 2010, he joined Akritas Chlorakas in Cyprus and made just 8 appearances before finally hanging boot.

Abbey George was born in Port-Harcourt, Nigeria.
