Former Nigeria Super Eagles Midfielder Banned for Match-Fixing

By Oladele Emmanuel - Former Super Eagles Midfielder Dickson Etuhu has been slammed with a five years ban for attempted match-fixing after trying to persuade his then team-mate to under perform in a game.

Etuhu was accused of offering bribe worth £180,000 to his former team-mate Kenny Stamatopoulos AIK Stockholm second choice goalkeeper after injury has put their first choice goalkeeper on the sideline, the purpose of the offer is to fix their club  game against Gothenburg, the game that happened in May 2017, the Goalkeeper will have to under perform in the game to achieve that.

After Investigation, the 37-year-old Nigerian was found guilty but narrowly escaped been jailed by the court.

But Swedish Football Association have taken a massive step against the former Fulham player by slamming a five years ban which will run until April 13, 2025.

"The Suspension means that the convicted person is not allowed to participate in any form of organised sporting activities within any special sports association with the Swedish Sports Federation and the suspension includes training, competition and exercising assignments," the FA announced.

Etuhu represented Nigeria between 2007-2011 and was at the Africa Cup of Nations in Angola and FIFA World Cup in South Africa respectively in 2010.
