He started his football career at Prime FC of Oshogbo in 2005 before moving to Julius Berger FC of Lagos in 2006, he was discovered by a FIFA agent Marcelo Houseman who recommended him to Atta Aneke before being taking to Lyon Oslo in Norway for trial in which he later joined the team in 2007.
He's married to Sonia Ighalo and had a son Samuel Ighalo.
The former Watford striker has also represented the Nigeria U20 National team where he made three appearances and the Super Eagles with 35 appearances scoring 16 goals.
