Everton Supporters Turn Against Super Eagles Midfielder

The supporters of Everton Football Club have formed a social media gang-up against Super Eagles playmaker, Alex Iwobi after his performance during his side’s 5-2 defeat against Liverpool on Wednesday.

Iwobi, who joined the Toffees for £40m from Arsenal in the summer, has not got off to the start he wanted since his move from north London.

Taking home £50,000-a-week (via Spotrac) from Goodison Park, the 23-year-old has scored just once in 13 Premier League appearances and has not provided any assists during the current campaign.

Despite saying he was “mentally strong and prepared” for the Merseyside derby, his showing against his side’s hated neighbours suggested otherwise.

He was slammed for shirking out of a 50-50 challenge with Milner and lost six duels during the 90 minutes, as well as having a pass success rate of just 71%.

Supporters were furious with the Nigerian’s performance and made their feelings clear about him on social media.

Here you will find some of the angriest comments from Everton fans, with one supporter deeming Iwobi “Peter Beagrie level”:

Anyone criticising Iwobi, he’s the only offering anything in attacking area’s, not his best 45 but still useful to some extent. - @TheGwladysSt

His final decision is Peter Beagrie level - @Irontoffee

He's been dreadful and I'm being kind - @WhatKCSaid Replying to @TheGwladysSt

Final ball awful. I wouldn’t have taken off Sidibe - @timlewis_uk  Replying to @TheGwladysSt

His touch is abissmal - @PhilMcMurray Replying to @TheGwladysSt

His feet are that flat, he claps the ground when he runs, he never appears to strike the ball properly, most passes are an old school toe-y - @moranjm9 Replying to @TheGwladysSt

They’d clocked how awful sidibie really is I’ve seen the number 39 bus turn quicker - @mickyholt Replying to @TheGwladysSt

Recall that former Liverpool player Charlie Adam also labeled the midfielder as a bad investment for Everton Football Club.

"There's a massive imbalance in the squad. They have so many number 10's. Iwobi, I don't know where it comes from? [his signing]. Moise Kean, I don't know where it comes from. I don't see it. The money that they spent and the waste it's incredible. Moshiri will be saying, 'what is going on?'. This is Marcel Brands' man and he will back him as long as he can." Charlie Adam told BBC Five Live.

Iwobi has struggled to showcase any real consistent form since leaving the Emirates for Goodison Park as he has only found the back of the net once in dozen league appearances

Interim manager Duncan Ferguson will prosecute his first assignment at Everton when they welcome Chelsea to Goodison Park in an early English Premier League kick off on Saturday.
