Super Eagles Defender to be Promoted to Midfield by West Brom

Super Eagles defender Semilogo Ajayi who has enjoyed rich veins of form for the accelerating West Bromwich Albion could be moved as a make shift midfielder for the Matchday 17 English championship of the ongoing 2019/2020 season

The 26-year-old former Arsenal player who had a superb international break where he helped Super Eagles to crucial Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers victories over Benin Republic and Lesotho has been super regular for Slaven Bilić tinkered West Brom this season as they seem to be cruising in the second tier of English professional football thus far.

Slaven Bilić who is a former West Ham United manager will be forced to rearrange his team tactically following the suspension to some key players.

Jake Livermore and Romaine Sawyers were both handed their fifth yellow cards of the season in the previous league game against Hull City and will, therefore, be unavailable for selection when the Baggies host Sheffield Wednesday troops at the Hawthorns on Saturday.

The absence of Sawyers and Livermore might hand an opportunity to Semi Ajayi who operated several times as a defensive midfielder for Rotherham United in previous years and his experience could prove to be handy for Bilic’s side while it could also see monstrous Egyptian defender Ahmed Hegazi enter the team to partner Kyle Bartley at the heart of the backline.

Ajayi has scored twice for the team in 17 outing this season and will be thirsty to add to the tally.

Under the tutelage of Slaven Bilic, the Baggies have been stupendous in their endeavours as they have secured 33 points from their 16 league outings so far.

Impliedly, Bilic’s side will undoubtedly strive to secure all three points against Garry Monk’s Owls to maintain their position at the summit. 

Incredibly, no team in the top four tiers of English football has picked up more points away from home than West Brom in the calendar year 2019. 

They are currently leveled with Manchester City and Bristol City for points gained on the road this calendar year with 36 points.
