The Victims of Circumstances in the Super Eagles team

With three points already in the bag after a rather unconvincing display in their match day one of the ongoing Total Africa Cup of Nations.
A lot has happened and more to still happen as the team is shaping up for steady and tougher tests.

How Good is Onuachu Aerially?

Paul Ebere Onuachu exploits over the years in Denmark is highly commendable but the tallest Super Eagles player ever offers little or no aerial threats so far in the few games we have seen him.

A golden opportunity presented itself on platter in the early stage of the Burundi tie but the lanky attacker was unable to generate enough power for the so comfortable, presentable and inviting flick from John Mikel Obi and was later removed for Odion Ighalo who scored the winner.

Ola Aina Finally Coming Good...
Torino full/wing-back, Olaoluwa Aina was a Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup squad scapegoat when he was unanimuosly dropped.

The former Chelsea player is turning out to be a great asset after recieving some tutor from Hull City and Torino.

The retirement of former Monaco left-back Elderson Echiejile, the unconvincing Mundial show of Russia based Brian Idowu, the unfortunate long-term injury to Tyronne Ebuehi and the sickness to the currently favoured Jamilu Collins gave him the chance to make the starting line-up in the Super Eagles opener and he capped a decent outing with a cheeky beautiful back-heel flick.

Shehu Abdullahi prone to injury...

Turkish based defensive machine, Shehu Abdullahi qualities are never in doubt but his recent romance with injuries should be something worrisome for Coach Gernot Rohr.

The 26-year-old suffered an injury relapse during one of the qualifiers (versus Libya in Uyo) just few minutes into the game after passionately and patriotically declining warning from the Bursaspor medical team.

With his injury against Burundi and lack of natural back-up in the squad, Gernot Rohr have been forced to make-do with a make-shift Chidozie Awaziem and with question mark on Samuel Kalu's availability, the right power could find it way to someone not presently in the team.

Kenneth Omeruo's La Liga labour not in vain....
'Josiah' was on the loan move again from Chelsea but he had undisputedly his best season with Spanish team, Leganes and his performance in contrast to Leon Balogun's output for Brighton and Hove Albion earn him a well deserved starting spot in the team.

Samuel Chukwueze Smooth integration....
Villarreal prodigy,Samu Chukwueze have finally blend with the Super Eagles bigger boys and his permanent squad spot almost settled.

The 20-year-old gave a laudable account in the slim victory over the Swallows of Burundi with seven completed/successful dribbles with him just making the starting eleven twenty four hours to the match courtesy of Samuel Kalu Cardiovascular threat.

Mikel not Ideal for Attacking Midfield...

With all due respect to veteran midfielder, John Obi Mikel and his successful career in the round leather game.

The demand of modern day football and it's requirements are extreme and beyond his skillset. Coach Gernot Rohr was able to finally detect that John Mikel Obi doesn't have the pace to help support slow and sluggish strikers but however, Mikel can still serve brilliantly as a central midfielder where the demand for pace is low while demand for accurate passes is high.
