China named Fabio Cannavaro as new head coach

Italian legend and former footballer of the year, Fabio Cannavaro has been named the new head coach of the Chinese national team, the announcement was made on Friday.
The 45-year-old succeeded fellow citizen, Marcelo Lippi who resigned his position following China poor outing in the Asian Cup in January.

The Chinese Football body gave Cannavaro the job considering his experience, technical and tactical style, his familiarity with Chinese Football, among others, "The association has carefully made this decision based on comprehensive research of his experience and technical and tactical style, familiarity with Chinese players and other factors," the Chinese Football Association said on Friday.
Cannavaro will continue to coach Chinese Super League side Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao, together with the national team.

The former Italian captain will face his first test when China host Thailand on Thursday in the China Cup.
