Akwa United went down to Heartland FC of Owerri in a pre-season friendly played at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri on Sunday.
Akwa United new coach Rafael Everton featured 22 players in the encounter, fielding a different set of eleven in each half of the game, but that was not enough to stop Heartland FC who had a good first half game and should have taken the lead in th first 15th minute of first half.
Before the half time, Promise Keepers Golie Emmanuel Iwu in an attempt to clear a danger in his half resulted in a foul on Heartland's Chukwudi Nwaodu and the referee awarded a penalty to Owerri based team, and a well taken spot kick from Uche Oguchi gave Heartland FC the deserved victory of the evening.
The purpose of the friendly is to test the fitness level of players from both team, as the new NPFL season is expected to kickoff in December.
