Super Eagles of Nigeria will trade tackles with Libya in the coming days for a place in the prestigious football competition in Africa known as the African Cup of Nations.
The three-time African Champions have honour and prestige to protect when they welcome the Mediterranean Knights to Uyo especially after losing 0-2 to the Bafana Bafana of South Africa for the first time ever in 2017 on the same pitch.
But something glaring in the team is the inability of the top strikers to score goals.
Despite the patience and endurance of the Coach in selection over a period of two years, the key men are not firing which is a big concern going forward.
Chinese league hitman,Odion Ighalo has only found the back of the net twice(one vs Cameroon and a penalty vs Seychelles) under Coach Gernot Rohr while the trio of Victor Moses,Alex Iwobi and Ahmed Musa are 5-star performers with 5goals each and it is not surprising, despite not scoring for close to a year, Leicester City attacker,Kelechi Iheanacho is still topping the chart with 7goals.
Ahmed Musa,Alex Iwobi,John Mikel Obi and few others could make the difference occasionally but what happened at the World Cup will always repeat itself on the big stage which doesn't befits a brand as big as the Super Eagles.
Team manager, Gernot Rohr must endeavour to give young attackers like Henry Onyekuru and Isaac Success some caps in order to sharpens the toothless frontline, create competition in the team, give room for little or no error for the men in Green and White to perform at the required standard.
In fact, Odion Ighalo had to use his wealth of experience to collect the ball from his teammates even when everyone knows that he's not the team's penalty taker in their last competitive match due to frustration.
Strikers like Obafemi Martins,Osaze Odemwingie,Ikechukwu Uche,Yakubu Aiyegbeni,Obinna Nsofor,Emmanuel Emenike all made headlines leading the line for the Super Eagles in the last 10-15 years even in lesser creative set-ups.
