Zesco United yesterday successfully defended their Zambian FAZ MTN Super League title after thumping Nchanga Rangers 4:0 in their Week 37 (Brought forward) League match in Ndola. Zesco made easy pickings of Rangers, scoring three goals in the first ten minutes of the match. Goals came from Kenyan International Jesse Werre, Zambian International Solomon Sakala and Mwape Mwelwa. The league win means that Zesco take their tally of league titles to seven as they have amassed an unassailable 80 points with two games to spare. They also make a return to the CAF Champions League.
Joining Zesco in next year's Champions league are 12 time champions Nkana FC who settled for second position on 72 points. Nkana return to the Champions League after a five year absence though they were in this year's Confederations Cup. Zambia's two representatives in the 2019 CAF Confederations Cup are military sides Green Eagles and Green Buffalos (68 points each) with Southern Province based Eagles making a debut appearance on the continental circuit. Conspicuosly missing will be regular continental campaigners Zanaco Fc who as at yesterday were at 64 points and in fifth position. Although there are still two rounds to go, CAF slots have been closed in order to meet new deadlines set by the continental body.
Rangers, Monze Swallows and Kabwe Youth Academy were comfirmed relegated with the fourth relegation victim possibly being National Assembly or Lumwana Radiants.
