C. Ronaldo sees red, United dazzles, Madrid on fire, City not finding their rhythms, all in Wednesday night UEFA Champions League showdown

The Wednesday UEFA Champions League came with so much stories, on top of the stories was Ronaldo's red card. The current World Footballer of the year was given a match order on Wednesday night after engaging in a vigorous struggle with Jeison Murrilo and been watched by an official behind the net in what appeared that Ronaldo was putting his hand on the head of the centre-back in the 18-yard box which was viewed to be offensive.

German Referee Felix Brych then discussed with his assistant and decided to sent Ronaldo off in the 29th minute of the encounter at Mestalla in Valencia. The hope of Ronaldo to return to Old Trafford to face his former team is now on hold as he will be on suspension for both legs. The Portuguese marksman has been struggling recently after joining Juventus from Real Madrid in the summer.

But Juventus went ahead of Ronaldo's limitation to beat Valencia, thanks to a brace from Pjanic, both goals from the spot.

Still on Wednesday night football, the way it was for Ronaldo, not so for his former teammates as the Galacticos put three past their Italian foes AS. Roma in their first group game of the 2018/2019 UEFA Champions League season.

Isco opened scoring for Real Madrid in the 45th minute of the game with Gareth Bale doubling Madrid lead in the 48th minute after receiving an assist from Modric. Mariano Diaz also score an added time goal in the 90'+1 to make it three for the host after receiving an assist from Marcelo.

Also, Wednesday night was a rejoicing moment for Manchester United has they kick-starts this season UEFA Champions League campaign with a 3-0 victory over Young Boys FC from Switzerland. Paul Pogba was the talking point as he grabbed a brace from the encounter, the first in the 35th minute after receiving an assist from Fred.

Ivorian International Maxwell Cornet opened fire on City in the 34th minute and thanks to an assist from Nabil Fekir.

In the 43rd minute, it was Nabil Fekir who doubled the lead for the visitors after receiving an assist from Memphis Depay.

City could only redeem their image in the 66 minute with just one goal from Bernardo Silva, thanks to an assist from German Leroy Sane. The game ended 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium in favour of visiting Lyon.
