FIFA snubs Nigeria referee, names 36 referees, 63 assistants
No Nigerian referee will be at Russia 2018 World Cup, FIFA has confirmed.
The world governing body has published its list of 36 referees and 63 assistants to stand in the tournament, but Nigeria referee were snubbed.
No Nigerian referee was deemed good enough by FIFA to be included in the list despite FIFA picking six officials and 10 assistant referee from Africa to represent the Confederation of African Football.
The listed African referees are Abid Charef Mehdi (Algeria),
Diedhiou Malang (Senegal), Gassama Bakery Papa (Gambia),
Grisha Glead (Egypt), Sikazkwe Janny (Zambia), Tessema Weyesa Bamlek (Ethiopia).
The 10 assistant referees are Achik Redouane (Morocco ), Ahmed Waleed (Sudan ), Birumushahu Claude (Burundi), Camera Djibril (Senegal), Dos Santos Jerson Emiliano (Angola ), Etchiali Abdelhak (Algeria), Hmila Anouar (Tunisia), Range Marwa (Kenya ), Samba Malick (Senegal) Siwela Zakhele Thusi (South Africa).
British also failed to produce a referee in the world cup for the first time since 1938.
