UEFA Champions League: Barcelona, Chelsea progresses, Manchester United stumbles, PSG Riots

FC Barcelona advanced to the Last 16, while Paris Saint-Germain showed Celtic no mercy in Wednesday's UEFA Champions League action.

■ Paris Saint-Germain 7-1 Celtic

Paris Saint-Germain consolidated top spot in Group B with a 7-1 thumping of Celtic on Tuesday eveing.

Brendan Rodgers' charges had a dream start with Moussa Dembele opening the scoring after 56 seconds, however PSG hit back emphatically with Neymar scoring two goals inside 22 minutes.

Cavani took over from there, as he made it 3-1 in the 28th minute before Kylian Mbappe added the fourth goal before halftime to leave the Scottish giants shell-shocked.

Cavani completed his brace in the 79th minute, while Marco Verratti and Dani Alves rounded off the scoring for the Ligue 1 outfit.

■ Qarabag 0-4 Chelsea

Chelsea booked their place in the last 16 of the Champions League with an emphatic 4-0 win over Qarabag in Baku on Wednesday evening.

Willian scored a goal in each half while Eden Hazard and Cecs Fabregas both converted spot-kicks in their 4-0 victory.
■ Basel 1-0 Manchester United

Manchester United were denied passage into the last 16 of the competition with a game to spare after they went down 1-0 to Basel on Wednesday evening.

Jose Mourinho's charges needed a point to confirm qualification into the next round but conceded a last minute goal by Michael Lang to condemn them to defeat away from home.

United will have to wait for the last match day to qualify for the knockout stage.

■ Juventus 0-0 Barcelona

Barcelona got the point they needed to qualify for the last 16 in their 0-0 draw with Juventus on Wednesday evening.

Ernesto Valverde shocked the football public by benching Lionel Messi and played Paulinho in the number 10 role in a robust-looking system.

■ Anderlecht 1-2 Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich registered a 2-1 victory over Anderlecht on Wednesday evening.

Robert Lewandowski broke the deadlock for the Bavarians in the 51st minute before Sofiane Hanni brought the hosts level three minutes after the hour.
However, Corentin Tolisso, who setup the opening goal for Lewandowski scored the winner 13 minutes from time.
