Nigeria remaining team on continental duty Rivers United started their Caf Confederations Cup journey with defeat after losing 3-1 in Tunisia against Club Africain on Sunday.
The Tunisians came out like a house on fire when they deservedly took a 2-0 first half lead through Ifa Bilal who rose highest to nod in off a corner kick and tunisian football veteran Oussama Daragi from the spot. Rivers United tried to stage a comeback in the second half when John Odumegbu struck a precise effort into the far corner from the edge of the penalty area but defeat became obvious for the visitors when Joseph Douhadji scored an own goal to restore the two-goal cushion for Club Africain while Emeka Ogbugh missed a penalty with 11 minutes left on the clock.
Elsewhere, FUS Rabat also secured a 3-0 home victory against KCCA of Uganda to top the group as Rivers United are third on the log.
