Rivers United tried to stage a comeback in the second half when John Odumegbu struck a precise effort into the far corner from the edge of the penalty area but defeat became obvious for the visitors when Joseph Douhadji scored an own goal to restore the two-goal cushion for Club Africain while Emeka Ogbugh missed a penalty with 11 minutes left on the clock.
