Senegal are through to the final of the Total U-20 Africa Cup of Nations for the second successive tournament after they defeated Guinea 1-0 in the second semi-final played at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Thursday.
Aliou Badji scored the only goal of the match in the 12th minute when he benefitted from a cross by man-of-the-match Jean Jacques Idrissa Ndecky to nod the ball past Moussa Camara in goal for Guinea. They could have increased their advantage on the stroke of half time but Camara was alert to deny Ibrahima Niane from the penalty spot.
Guinea were also unlucky as twice they saw efforts by Yamadou Toure and Mohamed Aly Camara come off the the woodwork inside the opening 25 minutes.
The Young Teranga Lions who reached the final when they hosted the continental youth tournament two years ago are undefeated in the tournament in Zambia where they have only dropped points in their 1-1 draw with Sudan which they followed up with victories against South Africa and Cameroon to reach the last four. They will come up against hosts Zambia who saw off the challenge of South Africa in the first semi-final played at the National Heroes Stadium on Wednesday.
Coach Francois Koto said his team was fully focused on the final in Zambia and not the one they lost on home soil.
“We cannot talk about the final which was played two years ago because we have a match to play against Zambia. It is not up to me to predict the outcome of the match but I hope that Zambia will lose. It will all be up to how the players will perform on the day,” said Koto.
"We are thankful that we are in the final and they will be aware of what happened two years ago and we hope that they will enjoy the match."
The final will be played at the National Heroes Stadium on Sunday, March with kick-off scheduled for 18h00 CAT.
