Nigeria football legend Samson Siasia is not favourite to land the bafana job according to the latest report from South African Football Federation.
Siaone who coached super eagles twice was one of the numerous coaches that applied for the managerial position of Bafana Bafana but doesn't have the Afcon experience.
Stars of Africa Football Academy director Farouk Khan has hinted to KickOff.com that the new Bafana Bafana coach will be a foreigner, stating the candidate will need local coaches as assistants to give him a clearer understanding of the South African game.
Last week, Khan was included in the SAFA National Executive Committee that will help to identify a new national team coach, following the sacking of Ephraim ‘Shakes’ Mashaba at the end of last year.
"We are not selecting the coach but we are only giving [nominations],” Khan tells KickOff.com .
"For example, we will shortlist names and SAFA will come up with the final name. We need a good coach but we will also need good local coaches around him because I don't believe a foreign coach will be a success by himself. I'd prefer a local coach to assist him but that's my view."
Khan also underlined some of the criteria they will require when recommending a suitable candidate for the Bafana Bafana coaching job.
"The coach [needs] experience and understanding of local football, excellence of our playing philosophy, [and] international coaching experience, especially at AFCON. He must have a good track record, meaning he must have won something in his coaching career.
“He must have a vision and passion for football development and must have a coaching license equal to our level 3, must have a four-year plan and motivational skills, willingness to use technology and be good in communicating in English."
Samson Siasia last coached Nigeria U-23 team to a Bronze medal position at Rio 2016.
